Easy Pepperoni Pita Pizza

Who doesn’t love a good pizza? These days I’m always looking for a healthier version of my favorite foods, pizza being one of them! One day I went out on a limb because I was craving pizza and didn’t want to order delivery. I had some pita bread, shredded cheese, and a can of tomato sauce in the pantry.

I decided to be a little creative and what-do-ya-know? My pita pizza was born! I was shocked at how good it was. The next time I made them I used pepperoni and diced veggies and they were even better! These things have been on repeat in my house and even my husband loves them!

When I’m craving pizza, but looking for something a little lighter, these definitely hit the spot. They are super customizable and come to the table in about 30 minutes start to finish. They are so easy to make and don’t take much effort at all to put together. I don’t know about you, but I need these kinds of meals in my life! Here’s how you make them!

Ingredients You Will Need For This Recipe:

Non-stick cooking spray

4 Pitas

1 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese

40 pieces of turkey pepperoni

1/2 cup of chopped mushrooms

1/4 cup of diced onions

1/4 cup of diced bell pepper

8 oz can of plain tomato sauce

1/4 teaspoon of Italian seasoning

1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder

1/16 teaspoon of salt

1/16 teaspoon pepper

1/16 teaspoon of red pepper flakes

1/8 teaspoon of agave

What type of pitas should I buy?

You can use either white or whole wheat pitas. Both work well.

Can I use regular pepperoni, instead of turkey pepperoni?

You absolutely can. I prefer turkey pepperoni, but regular pepperoni will work too!

How To Make The Pepperoni Pita Pizzas:

Step 1:

Preheat your oven to 350.


Step 2:

Make pizza sauce by mixing together tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and agave.


Step 3:

Chop mushrooms and set aside.


Step 4:

Dice bell peppers and onions and set aside.


Step 5:

Spray a pan with non-stick cooking spray. Place each pita on the sprayed pan, top side down.


Step 6:

Place about 1 1/2 tablespoon of your pizza sauce on each pita. Evenly spread the pizza sauce on the pita using the back of a spoon.


Step 7:

Evenly divide the cheese between all of your pitas.


Step 8:

Evenly divide your pepperoni between your pitas.


Step 9: 

Evenly divide your mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions between your pitas.


Step 10:

Bake for 20-25 minutes.

  • Step 1 Preheat oven to 350
  • Step 2 Make pizza sauce by mixing together: tomato sauce, italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and agave in a small bowl. Mix well and set aside
  • Step 3 Chop mushrooms, set aside
  • Step 4 Dice bell pepper and onions, set aside
  • Step 5 Spray a sheet pan with non-stick cooking spray and place each pita on pan top side down
  • Step 6 Place about 1 1/2 tablespoon of pizza sauce on each pita and evenly spread
  • Step 7 Evenly distribute cheese on each pita
  • Step 8 Evenly distribute pepperoni on each pita
  • Step 9 Evenly distribute mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions on each pita
  • Step 10 Bake for 20-25 minutes
