Weight Loss is Not a Straight Shot Down: WEIGH-IN WEDNESDAY WEEK 17

When I was a kid it was our family tradition to go to a different theme park every summer. I always looked forward to the trip every year, because I would get to go on ALL the roller coasters with my brother (or I should probably say… all the ones we could manage to ride in a day.) I loved roller coasters! They were so fun. They had ups and downs… and curves! They went sideways and backwards! The biggest thrill for me though would be when the roller coaster would go down. I would scream and raise my hands, and just be so full of excitement that I could barely control myself! My heart would feel like it was going to jump straight out of my chest. I remember that as much as I loved the drops on each and every roller coaster that I rode, I did not like when the ride started to go back up. It just wasn’t as exciting.

After I weighed in this morning, I started to think a lot, and I was reminded of my times on those roller coasters. I wanted this weekly weigh-in post to be a bit of encouragement to you today because I realized that our weight loss journeys are a lot like those roller coasters that I would go on as a kid. We have downslopes, which we love. On the other side, we have upslopes, which we would prefer not to have to experience.

But just like the rollercoaster, when the ride was going up, it seemed like a disappointment, but at the end of the day, I always knew that there would be another downslope… another curve… something that would get my heart pumping again, in anticipation for what would happen next and I would feel the same kind of excitement. The same is true throughout our journeys.

As you can see below, last week I weighed in, and I had gained a little over a half of a pound, since the week before. Today I got on the scale and was down almost 2 pounds…

Week 1 Weigh-In: 230.0

Week 2 Weigh-In: 227.6

Week 3 Weigh-In: 226.2

Week 4 Weigh-In: 227.0

Week 5 Weigh-In: 224.2

Week 6 Weigh-In: 223.8

Week 7 Weigh-In: 223.0

Week 8 Weigh-In: 221.8

Week 9 Weigh-In: 220.2

Week 10 Weigh-In: 219.0

Week 11 Weigh-In: 220.0

Week 12 Weigh-In: 220.2

Week 14 Weigh-In: 219.8

Week 15 Weigh-In: 217.8

Week 16 Weigh-In: 218.4

Week 17 Weigh-In: 216.6

Weight Lost Since Last Week: -1.8 lbs

   Total Weight Lost: -36.4 lbs


If we can just remember that both weight loss and weight gain is a part of the roller coaster ride, that we call our journey, then we can pick ourselves up, lift our heads, and be proud that we are strong enough to keep moving towards our goals!
